Mussar 1
Mussar 1

Mussar is a centuries-old Jewish tradition of study and practice that fosters personal and spiritual growth. Rooted in Jewish wisdom, its teachings are as relevant to the challenges of our lives today as they have been for generations.

Mussar invites us to examine our middot—our inner soul traits, such as humility, patience, gratitude, generosity, and compassion—and to notice how they shape the way we move through the world. Through awareness and intentional practice, we learn to recognize the habits and inner obstacles that sometimes keep us from being the people we aspire to be.

Together, we will exercise our souls through text study, group discussion, study with a chevruta (partner), journaling, and experiential practices.

This course is available to beginners and anyone looking to renew their Mussar practice. No prior Mussar is required.

This course will be facilitated by Caryl Shaw.

Scholarships are available. Please reach out to Cantor Hollis () if you have any questions about the course cost.

Mussar 3

Prerequisites: Mussar 1 and Mussar 2

Facilitated by Caryl Shaw

Mussar practice deepens over time. Mussar 3 offers an opportunity to continue the journey together within the support of a va’ad—a community committed to learning, reflection, and personal growth.

This course welcomes both returning participants and anyone who has completed Mussar 1 and 2 at TST and is ready to deepen or reinvigorate their practice.

Together, we will explore middot (soul traits) including Silence, Friendship, Joy, Balance, and others, while continuing to bring Mussar practice into the challenges and relationships of our everyday lives.

Scholarships are available. Please reach out to Cantor Hollis () if you have any questions about the course cost.
