Understanding Judaism and Islam:  
Seeing Ourselves and Each Other Through a New Lens  


Rabbi Dr. Reuven Firestone is one of the world’s leading scholars of Muslim-Jewish relations, the Hebrew Bible and the Qur’an, and comparative religion and interfaith dialogue.  As the Regenstein Professor of Medieval Islamic and Judaic Studies at Hebrew Union College, and Affiliate Professor of Religion at the University of Southern California, he has written over one hundred scholarly chapters and articles and eight books, translated into many languages. He has initiated and continues to be involved in numerous projects bringing together Jews with Muslims and Christians, Jews with Arabs, and Israelis with Palestinians.  
Born in Northern California, he and his family have lived in Israel, Egypt, and Germany. He regularly lectures in universities and religious centers throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

With remarks by Rabbi Dr. Firestone previewing the weekend study  

7:15-8:15 pm – The 5 Pillars of Islam: An Introduction to Islam and its Relationship with Judaism  
Discussion following services 

Saturday, March 6 

9:30-10:45 am – Torah Study:  The Golden Calf 
Discussion of the weekly Torah portion, led by Rabbi Dr. Firestone 

3:00-4:30 pm – Family Feud Genesis-Style, featuring Abraham, Hagar & Sarah, Ishmael & Isaac  
Joint text study with our friends from the Islamic Center of Boston 

Sunday, March 7 

11:15 am - 12:30 pm – Antisemitism and Islamophobia: Origins, History, and Relationship 
Conversation and conclusions 

The weekend is free of charge to members of TST.
