An Introduction to Meditation (East and West): A Guide for the Perplexed

This 4 part class will explore the major forms of meditation (East and West) that are practiced in the world today. We will explore the 'roots and fruits' of these meditative practices--where they come from and what the goals and benefits are--and then practice and discuss them together. This course will provide the necessary background information and tools to allow us to skillfully navigate the unprecedented 'spiritual marketplace' that exists in our society today.

Open to those just beginning to explore meditation as well as those with more experience or an established practice already.

Classes will take place on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.

May 22 - Meditation in Yoga: The Path of Samadhi

June 5 - "Mindfulness" Meditation in Buddhist and Secular/ Scientific Contexts

June 12 - Kabbalah and Jewish Meditation: History and Today

June 19 - Monks and Whirling Dervishes: Christian and Islamic Meditative Traditions
