Director of Education - Alison Weikel

I joined Temple Shir TIkva in 2018 as the Director of Education and I am responsible for Religious School and AISH which includes grades K-12. I came to TST from The Valley Temple in Cincinnati, Ohio where I was Director of Education since 2008. During my tenure there, I was responsible for all aspects of religious and family education, including curriculum development, hiring and mentoring of faculty and close communication with students and their parents. I was also the creator of many innovative programs that fostered an inclusive environment for students and families with a variety of needs. I am passionate about Jewish education and about children from toddlers to teens. I believe strongly in listening to them and to their parents, providing flexibility, support and solutions to difficult situations. Community is primary to me, and I plan to build a personal relationship with each family and each child, hoping to create an environment in which each student can experience personal success and grow in a commitment to and love of Judaism. My background includes undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania as well as certificates from the Mandel Teacher Educator Institute and the University of Cincinnati in Jewish educational leadership. I am one of the 2014 National winners of the Grinspoon Award for Excellence in Jewish Education. Before entering Jewish education, I spent several years in public education in Pennsylvania, New York and Germany. I am a strong believer in ongoing professional development and mentoring of teachers and have presented and published on several topics including reflective practice, innovation and teacher growth. I live in Carlisle with my husband and two college-aged children and I am thrilled to be a part of the Shir Tikva community. You may reach me at or 508-358-9992 x205. Alison Weikel
