STIFTY Bake Sale for Hurricane Relief
Date:
November 19, 2017 - 8:45am

Join our Shir Tikva teens in their drive to raise money for Hurricane Maria relief efforts in Puerto Rico!

Our teens will be hosting a Social Action Breakfast Bar and Bake Sale from 8:45am to 11:45am on Sunday, November 19th, and all proceeds will be donated to the relief organization Unidos Por Puerto Rico (United for Puerto Rico), a charity organization created by Puerto Rican First Lady Beatriz Rosselló in the aftermath of the Hurricane.

About the organization, from its website:

“United for Puerto Rico is an initiative brought forth by the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rosselló, in collaboration with the private sector, with the purpose of providing aid and support to those affected in Puerto Rico by the passage of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane María. 100% of the proceeds will go to helping the victims affected by these natural disasters in Puerto Rico.”

In Jewish tradition, we speak often of Tikkun Olam – repairing the world. Right now, few places in our side of the world need that repair more than Puerto Rico, where entire communities have lost their homes, over half of the island remains without power, food shortages continue, and fresh, safe drinking water remains scarce.

If you are interested in baking items for the bake sale, we would love to have your help -- please e-mail Jenna Friedman at jfriedman@shirtikva.org telling her what you will bring!

There is also a tzedakah box for our specific Hurricane relief efforts in the lobby; we will be collecting donations over the next two weeks. Any and all contributions are welcome!
