Guide to Giving at Temple Shir Tikva
Tzedakah is the Hebrew word for giving to worthy causes. It is the great Jewish tradition of contributing from individual resources toward the good of the whole community. There are many opportunities to fulfill the mitzvah of tzedakah at Temple Shir Tikva.
Why Give?
* To support Temple Shir Tikva’s mission and commitment to excellence
* To preserve Jewish tradition, teaching and values
* To strengthen a Jewish community
* To help those in need
* To remember or honor family and friends
* To celebrate a special occasion
* To leave a legacy.
All gifts, regardless of size, are important and greatly appreciated.

Core Funds for Sustaining Temple Shir Tikva
Annual Fund
The Board of Trustees asks every family to join them in making a contribution to the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund supports everything we do at Shir Tikva each year -- salaries for our clergy, professional, administrative and custodial staff; programs for education, lifecycle events, holidays, social action and community-building; and maintenance and improvement to our buildings, grounds and technical infrastructure. A contribution to the Annual Fund will also ensure that no member of our congregation is turned away for financial reasons.
Mortgage Reduction Fund
Retiring the mortgage is a pressing financial goal. Eliminating this obligation will help us balance our operating budget and deploy resources in ways that will better serve our needs as a congregation. We hope to repay the mortgage as soon as possible so that funds currently going to the mortgage can be re-directed to programs. If each member makes as large a one-time gift to this effort as possible, we can achieve this goal.
Endowment Fund
A permanent endowment will provide income for future plans and needs through investment. The principal will remain intact and only a portion of the accrued earnings will be spent each year for unrestricted general purposes or for specific purposes as designated by donors within the mission of the Temple. An endowment will give us the financial security to plan the future of Temple Shir Tikva with confidence.
