Beit Knesset (Gathering)
Family Camp

Brotherhood and Sisterhood
Our Brotherhood and Sisterhood provide a way for men and women
to connect with one another, examine issues of current concern, have
a good time, and support the Temple community.
All adult men and women in the congregation are automatically included
as members of the Sisterhood and Brotherhood. All are welcome, always.
Reyim
Reyim is Temple Shir Tikva's adult programming initiative. Reyim
means "friends" in Hebrew and our participants are both
old and new friends. Some of us are founding members and others are
relatively new to the community. We have in common the interest in
Jewish programs which have both a social and educational component. We
plan about 4-5 events a year which vary in content but always include
sharing a meal and a program with some interesting Jewish content.
Some of our programs have been the viewing of films from the Jewish
Film Festival and discussion; a talk on Jewish Genealogy; Shabbat
services followed by Shabbat dinner: holiday celebrations etc. Reyim
has become an important aspect of programming at Temple Shir Tikva.
Member Services
Member Services provides information for prospective members, welcomes
and helps to integrate new members, and assists with the networking
of all members. The Oneg Shabbat Committee also is a part of Member
Services.
Social Action
Faithful to our task of bringing Jewish values to life and modeling
them for our children, our congregation sponsors
a variety of activities designed to encourage members' active
involvement in the pursuit of social justice. The SOCIAL ACTION Committee
plans, coordinates, and carries out these programs throughout the
year with the support of the clergy and in conjunction with the religious
school to involve congregants of all ages. These projects provide
an opportunity for members of the Shir Tikva community to live out
the teachings of Judaism and Torah by performing mitzvot. The committee
also educates and promotes projects about societal injustice.
Israel Action
The Israel Action Committee plans programs to help support Israel.
This year, the Committee is focused on two important initiatives:
-
Adopt-A-Family -- The Adopt-A-Family program raises funds
and provides the congregation with a direct link to families in
Israel that are victims of terror. Last year the congregation adopted
several Israeli families -- read
about the success of our program in Looking Back at the Past
Year and learn about the recent trip by IAC members to Israel in "Impressions from Israel". With your support we hope to help
many more Israeli families.
Contact Joan Hoffman at jghpkh@comcast.net for information about,
or the email address of, our adopted families.
Caring Community KESHER
The Shir Tikva community reaches out to congregants at pivotal
moments in their lives. Through the Kesher program, Shir Tikva congregants
have the opportunity to perform the obligation of caring for those
who are in need during times of illness or bereavement. KESHER also
acknowledges joyful moments such as births and weddings.
TST Players
The TST Theater Troupe began in 1999 with an original cast of about
13 people. We had minimal scenery, costumes, sets and music. Today
we are a group of about 50 including cast, crew, and band. Our growth
has come from congregants seeing our productions and wanting to be
a part of the fun. Our audience attendance began around 250 and today
we draw in almost 1,000 people over 2 performances.
Our first 3 shows were written by Norman Roth from New York with
editing done by our own congregants. They were, in order, "The
Megillah According to Broadway", "The Megillah According
to Rock N Roll", "The Megillah According to the Beatles".
We then produced, "40 Years of Bad Road" by Jules Gelade
of Rhode Island. Today our own congregants have been inspired to
write, so the next 2 productions are proudly our own (one is loosely
based on a Norm Roth script).
Our band originally consisted of one keyboard player. Today it
includes keyboard, piano, bass guitar, percussion and saxophones.
Occasionally we have an electric cello. We also have built our own
stage to cut rental costs, and build our own sets, props and scenery.
Costuming has been created by one of our own congregants, too.
The TST Players is a unique community of people who have a special
bond through their Judaism, creativity and talent.

Mission: As we grow, we are committed to maintaining a closely connected
community based on friendship and mutual support. We strive to provide a warm
and welcoming environment, where people of different backgrounds feel comfortable,
and shared values, goals and spiritual experiences strengthen our bonds as a
community.
