Shabbat
Welcome Team
|
Saturday begins with an Early Morning Service at 8:30 am. This service is very informal and lasts approximately one hour. It is followed at 9:30 am with adult Torah Study and both novices and scholars are most welcome.
The Saturday Late Morning Service begins at 10:45 am and last approximately two hours. On most Saturdays B'nai Mitzvah's are celebrated at this service.
Since at times members and their guests cannot physically make their way to the Temple due to illness or travel restrictions, we have introduced a video and audio telecast of Erev Shabbat and the Saturday morning Torah Service over the Internet. More details can be found here.
On the First Saturdays of each month during the school year, a
Tot Shabbat services is held from 9:15am to 9:45 am. This service
is designed to introduce young children and their parents to Shabbat
in a fun and festive manner.
For a number of years, Temple Shir Tikva has worshipped from a Siddur composed jointly by the clergy and lay members of the congregation that is written to address themes of meaning to the Temple membership. Visitors to the site can read this special Siddur for Shabbat evening services, morning services, and musical liturgy on the web site.
If you would like to get involved in the process of writing original pieces for our Siddur or participate in the discussions about the Siddur, please contact VP of Worship or Chair(s) of the Ritual Committee.
Holidays
Holidays are special at Shir Tikva, with services that befit the solemnity or festivity of the holiday. Holidays like Simchat Torah are times to rejoice and at Shir Tikva adults and kids alike celebrate our unique traditions. See what Simchat Torah was like this year in this photo album.
Music & Choir
As one would expect, music plays an important role in a congregation
that calls itself Temple Shir Tikva. We always have had an enthusiastic
volunteer Adult Choir that participates in all High Holiday services and
special presentations throughout the year. The choir serves as a way to
reinforce and harmonize the congregation's singing of musical portions
of the service, introduce new music and enrich the worship experience.

The music is challenging enough to be interesting, varied and fun,
but not daunting or difficult. The choir offers the opportunity to
learn Jewish music, to provide an important service for the congregation,
and to enjoy the friendship of fellow congregants.
Everyone is welcome to join the Choir. The only prerequisite is
loving to sing, though of course the ability to carry a tune and
some familiarity with musical notation are helpful.
Shirei Yeladim
The
Youth Choir at Temple Shir Tikva, run by Cantor Hollis Schachner,
is only in its 3rd year and already has grown to 39 members. It is
open to all 3rd through 6th graders from our religious school. The
Youth Choir was named Shirei Yeladim or "Songs of Children".
The Youth Choir has been seen performing at many Simchat Shabbat,
holidays and special events around the Temple. They will be performing
at this year's Simchat 25 Celebration at Temple Shir Tikva with the
Adult Choir, as well as performing with other Boston Youth Choirs
at the annual Zimriyah in Boston.

If you love to sing and want to be part of our fabulous Youth Choir
stop by during our next rehearsal and watch. The Youth Choir practices
every Sunday from 10:45 am to 11:15 am in the Sanctuary. If you have
any questions contact Cantor Schachner at (508) 358-9992.
